Good for Kids. Good for Life. Program Information
Good for Kids is a demonstration program throughout the Hunter New England Health area, as part of the NSW Government's Live Life Well campaign. Phase one of the program ends in 2010. Findings from the program will eventually be applied state-wide.
The program brings together a variety of agencies, community organisations and industry to explore the effectiveness of a range of intervention strategies aimed at making it easier for kids to be active and to eat well. The program results will help to determine best practice in the area of childhood obesity prevention.
There is a specific focus on improving the health of Aboriginal children. The program has included consultation with Aboriginal communities across the region to determine the best and most culturally appropriate ways of reaching Aboriginal families with health messages.
Good for Kids is divided into seven streams, each focusing on a specific area of work;
- Children's services
- Primary and High Schools
- Aboriginal communities
- Community Organisations and local sports clubs
- Health care providers (including General Practitioners)
- Social Marketing
